 During his high school years, Scotty attended Summerville High School and Pinewood Preparatory School where he starred on a team that won two state basketball titles.  His workouts helped him earn a starting spot on the varsity team as a ninth grader, test out with a 44 inch vertical leap at the age of 17 and earn an athletic scholarship as a senior after being named Prep School Player of the Year in the state of South Carolina.   

Scotty attended The College of William and Mary, a public ivy-league institution, where he graduated and received a degree in Kinesiology in the class of 2000 while playing basketball for four years.  In his senior campaign, he was named co captain and finished in the top ten in the CAA conference in assists, assists to turnover ratio, three point percentage, three pointers made and free throw percentage statistical categories at William and Mary.
